Spend a relaxing day learning to paint outdoors with renowned artist Paul Nelson.
Paul will guide you through his process—from choosing a subject, to laying down colour, tone and structure using his 3-tone method. Through live demonstration, you'll learn how to capture trees, landscapes and the magic of nature, step-by-step.
No experience or artistic ‘talent’ needed—just come and have a go!
Bring a picnic – tea and coffee will be provided.
Materials needed: Paints (either Artist quality Acrylic paints I recommend a starter set of heavy bodied paints from Liquitex or if you prefer watercolours or already have other brands of paints that’s fine.)
Supports - or what I recommend you paint on
For watercolours or acrylics you can use a watercolour block. It’s important to use watercolour paper that is either stretched or part of a watercolour block, it prevents wrinkling and warping. You’ll ideally need 300 gm weight paper. An A3 size or larger is ideal but sketches could be A4.
Alternatively you could use painting boards or prime your own piece of MDF with white emulsion. Paul uses MDF board primed with White Gesso Primer.
Brushes for Acrylic or Watercolour
Synthetic Round sizes 2,4,and 6 with a larger brush for washes
For Acrylics - Flat brushes in sizes 4 and 6 would be useful too.
Additional Equipment: A jar for water, a pallet or white plate, a chair and sun hat and ideally an easel, though a small portable table will suffice.
The day is intended to be inspiring, informative and most of all enjoyable. I look forward to welcoming you on the day.
